U.S. DOT Number

Companies that operate commercial vehicles transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce must be registered with the FMCSA and must have a USDOT Number. Also, commercial intrastate hazardous materials carriers who haul types and quantities requiring a safety permit must register for a USDOT Number.

Unified Carrier Registration (UCR)

The UCR Act, established in 2005, requires motor carriers involved in interstate commerce, and other businesses subject to The Act, to submit annual fees based on fleet size to supplement funding for state highway motor carrier registration and safety programs.

IRS-2290 (HEavy Vehicle Usage Tax)

Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return or Form 2290 is a Federal Excise Tax imposed on vehicles operating in public highways with a gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. Taxes are collected annually and are used for highway construction and maintenance.

Interstate Operating Authority (MC #)

In general, companies that do the following are required to have interstate Operating Authority (MC number) in addition to a DOT number: Transport passengers in interstate commerce (for a fee or other compensation, whether direct or indirect) Transport federally-regulated commodities owned by others or arranging for their transport, (for a fee or other compensation, in interstate commerce)

Apportioned Registration (IRP)

The International Registration Plan (IRP) is an agreement among states of the US, the District of Columbia and provinces of Canada providing for payment of commercial motor carrier registration fees. To operate in multiple states or provinces, motor carriers must register in their base jurisdiction (state or province).
